Cake stands come in so many variations that it can easily become difficult to decide which will best fit your specific need. Even if you are making an arrangement for a large event, you probably want to stay away from very large cake stand displays. If the event is a wedding then by all means go all out but for everything else, a single or double stand is usually sufficient. For events such as birthdays, anniversaries, showers, and even large family reunions do not require anything more than a 3 tier cake stand, unless one is specifically requested by the guest of honor or party planner. Instead of making a multiple tiered cake for such events, consider making a cup cake stand arrangement instead. Cupcakes work exceptionally well for larger gatherings because they are portioned just right as a nice treat after a dinner or other celebratory event.

Wedding cake stands are supposed to be elaborate so it is definitely wise to use a 3 tier or 4 tier cake stand arrangement for such an event. When determining the type of stand, make sure it is consistent with other wedding accessories such as centerpiece vases, dinnerware, silverware, or even the color of the accents in the wedding reception décor. Such details are important to keep consistent because the décor should be seamless and matching throughout.

You can pull off a wonderful arrangement on a simple plastic stand as long as the overall decoration and arrangement is elegant and unique. The material of the stand is likely to be become blended in with the cake and decorations anyway. The base does however have to be a little more elegant or decorative because that is definitely an area that will be noticeable by guests.

You can add more decorative elements like flowers, leaves, and other such items if you want to cover up some of the glass but it really isn’t necessary. Glass is also easily matched throughout the rest of the wedding décor. Glass vases can be used for the centerpieces and candy or treat bowls can also be strategically situated throughout. Most stands result in a tiered tree or cascade effect with the larger tier as the base. Others cascade to the side or horizontally. The tree stand arrangement is by far the most popular and elegant but you can switch it up by choosing a stand that has square tiers versus round. Square or odd shaded stands add a modern twist that is sure to make a conversation piece at your next event.
